Cable detection / Cable tracking / cable depth of burial surveys
Scope of services
Various geophysical methods may be used in combination
to survey cables and other utilities such as pipelines. Passive magnetic and active electromagnetic sensors can be used to detect and track buried and unburied cables both on land as well as underwater. With these the depth of burial can be determined through modeling. The position and burial depth of sea cables can also be accurately determined using deep towed shallow seismic methods. To access the coverage of underwater cables a combination of both seismic and electromagnetic system are commonly used. Cables and pipelines lying openly on the seabed are tractable using sidescan sonar or multibeam echosounders. The cable track can be plotted as maps. Vertical profiles are suited to show the depth of a cable along its length.
